How Can We Build a Sustainable School?
In this project, students explored how to ensure the sustainable development of Hakuba International School while making decisions that will shape the future for generations to come. They gained a foundational understanding of systems change and the science of sustainability, learning about the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, Japan’s national priority issues, and practical actions that can be taken at a local level.
Through fieldwork and workshops, students strengthened their mathematical and analytical skills to make informed decisions about sustainable forest management. Using their research, they designed data visualizations to support their ideas and presented their proposals to experts, engaging in meaningful dialogue and receiving feedback to refine their plans for a more sustainable school community.
