Why does Hakuba International School need philanthropic support?

Tuition covers only a portion of the true cost of a Hakuba education. More than 60% of our annual operating budget comes from philanthropic giving, which allows us to maintain exceptional teachers, provide scholarships, develop our campus sustainably, and create innovative learning programs that benefit both students and the broader community.

What is the difference between the HIS Fund and other campaigns?

The HIS Fund supports the school’s daily operations — from classroom resources and faculty development to student activities. Campaigns like the Zero-Carbon Campus or Alpine Research Lab Hakuba are special initiatives focused on long-term goals such as sustainability, research partnerships, and campus innovation.

How can I make a gift?

You can support Hakuba International School in several convenient ways:

• Wire Transfer: Make a direct contribution to the school’s account — our Development Office can share details securely.

• Furusato Tax Donation: If you reside in Japan, you can give through the Furusato Nozei program and receive applicable tax benefits.

• every.org: Donate internationally through our verified nonprofit profile on every.org .

• PayPal: Use your PayPal account or credit card for a quick and secure online gift. Every method directly supports our students, teachers, and mission to build a sustainable, innovative school community.

Are donations tax-deductible?

Yes. Hakuba International School operates under a registered school organization (gakkō hōjin) in Japan. All residents in Japan are eligible for a tax deduction on their donations. For donors in the United States, tax-deductible gifts can be made through our verified nonprofit profile on every.org . If you reside outside Japan or the U.S., please contact:

Can I direct my gift to a specific purpose?

Absolutely. You may designate your gift toward a specific program, campaign, or scholarship. If you’d like to discuss a customized donation or partnership opportunity, our Development Manager would be happy to connect with you personally.

We share monthly Development Newsletters and stories highlighting how gifts directly support students, faculty and staff members, and sustainability initiatives. Transparency is central to our mission — your generosity helps shape real change, and we want you to see that difference.
