The Hakuba International School Spring Programme 2017 will welcome a small group of students between ages 12 and 16 to take part in a unique learning experience. During the spring holiday, students can enjoy the pristine air and spectacular natural beauty of Hakuba while taking part in a range of stimulating activities. Each day is jam-packed with new experiences and opportunities for self-growth. With an intense line-up of outdoor activities, Theory of Knowledge lesson, science, digital communication creative arts and music, your child will conclude the programme with new friends and great memories of their amazing adventures.

Activities

Outdoor / Sports Activity powered by Evergreen Outdoor Center
Enjoy hiking, rafting, mountain biking, and other sports in the stunning natural environment in Hakuba. Students will also observe and analyze the impact of each activity on their body through the use of wearable monitoring devices.

Visual Art
Working in small groups, students will develop a variety of technical art-based skills and techniques.

Music
Students will work together in preparation to take part in a carnival-style street performance on the final day. Each student will produce his/her own recycled drum and learn how to play the Japanese flute.

Computer Programming powered by Life is Tech!
Students will be exposed to the basics of programming; enabling them to work towards creating their own application or website! This extensive introduction will be delivered by Life is Tech!, Asia's leading programming education company specializing in secondary school students.

Individual Presentation
Through daily reflection and social activities, students will have plenty of opportunities to strengthen their intra and inter personal skills. On the final day, students will be asked to present their original take on what the experience has meant to them.
*Note: All lessons will be delivered in English.
Accommodation
Students will stay in a safe and comfortable environment at Nomad Hakuba.
Students share rooms with up to three other students, organized by gender and age. Freshly cooked meals from local produce are served daily and the Spring School Teachers oversea pastoral care. Students have access to coin laundry at the hotel should they need washing done.
General Information

Fees
The fees are based on an all-inclusive charge which covers medical and accident insurance (excluding any pre-existing conditions), accommodation, linen and towels, meals, course materials, all lessons including excursions, outdoor and sports activities.
Arrival
The students are expected to arrive at Nomad Hakuba by 3pm on Wednesday March 28th.
Transportation
The students are expected to be accompanied by parents or guardian to and from Hakuba. In case the students need to travel without adult supervision, please consult with HIS Summer School director at application@hakuba-is.jp.
Fitness
Please ensure that your child has a suitable level of fitness which will enable him/her to fully enjoy the physical nature of some of our activities.
Computers and other devices
Students are encouraged to bring their own laptop or other device for analyzing data and creating presentations. This is not essential.
Last Day Presentation
Please be informed that the parents, guardians and family members are welcome to join the students' presentation on the last day, Sunday April 1st. The details will be notified to the participants of the Summer School.
How to Apply
Places are limited. To secure a space for your child, please make your application now!
Here are the next steps:
1. Fill in the application form below and send it by e-mail at application@hakuba-is.jp together with a recent photo of your child.
2. Expect to hear from us promptly. We will get back to you to confirm your child's acceptance for the Spring School should he/she be accepted.
3. Deposit of Yen 50,000 should be paid by bank transfer promptly after the confirmation of acceptance. The place for your child will be secured when the payment of deposit is confirmed. Deposit is non refundable. Payment of balance should be made by bank transfer before Wednesday January 31st.

Conditions of Acceptance
We expect the parents and guardians of the Summer School students to understand and accept the following conditions.
Conduct
We expect students to conduct themselves in a manner that enhances every participant's experience at the Summer School. We expect them to treat people with respect. The Summer School Director reserves the right to send home anyone whose behavior is incompatible with general well-being of the Summer School. Students are expected to care for the campus, accommodations and for the local community. Smoking, drinking alcohol and the possession of any form of cigarettes, alcohol and drugs are strictly prohibited. Boys and girls are not allowed to visit each other's rooms at ay time. Students may not leave the campus or the adjacent accommodation without permissions of the Summer School Director. Students' use of mobile phones may be controlled during the day. They will be permitted to use their mobile phones during their free time in the evenings.
Cancellations
In the event of a cancellation, the deposit is non-refundable. With respect to any fees which have already been paid in full, a refund of the balance will be considered only in the event that the cancellation is communicated in writing no later than Friday June 24th. No refund will be made in respect of any child leaving before the end of the course.
Activities
We reserve the right to change any of the activities during the Summer School subject to weather and other conditions.
