Hakuba International School Foundation Project
We are starting a new school in Hakuba, Nagano. We are locating the school in the Northern Alps of Japan to celebrate the outstanding natural setting and the unique culture of the region. We are a group of seasoned educators with an extensive background in experiential and other innovative approaches to education and a deep interest in student development and wellbeing.
We are committed to sustainable practices imbuing student learning with an ethic of sustainability.
We are committed to employing innovative learning strategies to engage, empower and excite student interest and motivation.
We are committed to providing a safe and supportive environment for students to discover and develop into their unique selves.
We are committed to graduating students with the skills, frame of mind and qualifications to pursue their own paths.
We are committed to appreciating, celebrating and learning in this very special location of Hakuba.
And we are committed to embodying a school that learns.
We plan to open our doors to the inaugural class of the 7th and 8th grade (12- and 13-year old) students in September 2022.
Hakuba International School will cater to students aged 12 to 18 years old.
We will take a Project Based Learning approach with a strong focus on sustainability. Students will get out of the classroom and into the community to make an impact in their immediate surroundings, while building necessary skills and knowledge base for their future paths.
We plan to implement the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program (IBDP). The IB is a rigorous, ambitious, inquiry-based academic program, which also incorporates active ex-curricular and service activities.
Utilising Hakuba’s natural landscape to nurture sporting excellence and an adventurous spirit, our aim is to deliver a balanced program that will foster intellectual and physical development as well as social and emotional well-bieing in each student.
